I seem to remember the Buchanan Quartet name. WOW..Hard to believe it's been so long ago LOL!! Do you remember a bass singer from Lenoir named George Younce? He became the bass singer for the Cathedral Quartet. George sang in his first group with my Dad and grandfather in a group back in the late 40s. He was almost like my uncle when I was growing up. When he left Rex Hummbard and the Cathedral of Tomorrow in the late 60s he asked me if I was interested in being their piano player....HAHAHA If we all had 20-20 vision of the past. I really didn't think they would go anywhere and they became the most famous quartet in history.I did write a few songs they recorded but sure never got rich from it.
Do you remember a barber in the Valdese area named Harry Mull? I sang in a group called 'Meetin Time" with him in the late 70s and early 80s. One of the BEST bass singers I ever worked with. Also Charles Abee was playing piano with that group. He had just left the "Kingsmen" Oh yeah, I have many memories of the Valdese/Morganton area!
Yep, sort of a dismal day here as well. I'm actually north of Lenoir toward Blowing Rock but I know bunches of people in Hickory and Valdese. I started out in Gospel music and did a lot singing in the Valdese area back in the 1970s. Probably know some of the same people. Course you may not be as old as me to remember back that far! LOL
How's everything in Lexington? I just found this site a bout a week ago. Some really great folks in this network. I don't have any children myself and it used to make me a little sad. These days I think God I don't have any. Still I have nieces and nephews. Kinda hard to even look them in the eyes when you wonder what their life will be like if things don't change drastically. Thanks for the kind words on the song. Please help me pass it around by networks, emails, etc.
