"...what have we got—a Republic or a Monarchy?” “A Republic, if you can keep it

Letter to my Michigan Senators Stabenow and Peters

This is a copy of a letter I have just e-mailed to my Michigan Senators Stabenow and Peters.

"I, William Geresy, do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God."

I repeated this Oath many times during my 21 plus years of honorable military service in both the Active Air Force and Michigan Army National Guard.  This high Oath bound me as a defender of the U.S. Constitution up to and including risking my life in combat.  I lived up to my Oath.

The U.S. Constitution is to be treated as an iron clad contract between “We the People” and the U.S. Government.  Only with that view, is it worth the paper it is written on.  The false interpretation as a “living document” makes the sacrifice of our military worthless.  The view that the meaning can change without amendment is dangerous.  One will never know what one’s rights are tomorrow.

A jurist in any level of our many courts should be as a minimum be held to the standard of following the U.S. Constitution as written.  This is the mainstream.  It is the only stream.  Anything less is unacceptable to those of us that have served.

Any jurist that feels bound by precedence of prior court ruling that do not meet the high standards of the U.S. Constitution is not worthy of serving.  Prior courts have made gross mistakes.  A jurist must feel free to correct this mistakes based on evidence and the Constitution.

This is why I strongly support Judge Neil Gorsuch for the U. S. Supreme Court.  I urge you to vote yes on all votes on this question in the U. S. Senate.

Sincerely;

SGT William A. Geresy (ret)

This is great, thank you for sharing it!

I was thinking this morning, as I read the news that many GOP Congressman are facing pressure in their districts and at town hall meetings, how important it is for us to remain engaged.

I witnessed just how important it is in Illinois over the weekend.  The Left is actively targeting congressmen in districts where Hillary won the popular vote and the GOP Congressman won the popular vote. The Left is hoping to defeat these congressman and to flip the House in 2018.  On Saturday one such congressman was to speak at a Republican meeting in Palatine IL.  The Left promoted a protest on Facebook and showed up with about 50 leftist protesters.  Many carried pre-fab'd signs, proving the effort is funded and organized...

This is what the TEA Party did in 2010.  We went to the town-halls of the Dem's to hold them accountable.  We managed to flip the house which effectively slowed Obama to a crawl as far as legislation was concerned.

It is VERY important that Republicans stay engaged locally or we will face loses in the House in 2018.

This e-mail was from a similar e-mail that went to every Senator.  I have yet to hear from my two.  But this very empty reply I feel is worth sharing.  I guess being a Senator means writing a lot that says little if anything!

Mr. William Geresy

Dear Mr. Geresy:

Thank you for contacting me about the vacancy on the Supreme Court.  I appreciate hearing from you.

On February 1st, 2017, President Trump nominated Judge Neil Gorsuch of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit to be the next Supreme Court Justice.  Judge Gorsuch was nominated to the Tenth Circuit in 2006 and confirmed by the Senate that year.  Prior to his tenure on the court, he worked as a deputy associate attorney at the U.S. Department of Justice under the Bush Administration.  Judge Gorsuch also previously practiced law at a private firm and clerked for Judge David B. Sentelle in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia and for Supreme Court Justices Byron White and Anthony Kennedy.

Article II, Section 2 of the Constitution requires the President to nominate Supreme Court Justices and requires the Senate to provide its advice and consent for those nominations.  The Senate Judiciary Committee typically conducts hearings for Supreme Court nominations.  I take my responsibility to assess the nominee very seriously.  A nomination to the Supreme Court is the only nomination requiring an affirmative vote of 60 Senators because of the importance of the position.

In considering this nominee, I will study the judge's record with a special focus on cases dealing with civil rights, the equality of women, and the relative rights of corporations and persons.  I will also explore the issue of whether Judge Gorsuch decides cases as they present themselves with a mainstream approach or whether he is a judicial activist attempting to impose his own personal views through his opinions.

I will announce any decision on the nomination after I have met with Judge Gorsuch and observed the Judiciary Committee confirmation hearings.

Please be assured that I will keep your views on this important issue in mind.  Thank you again for contacting me.

Sincerely,

Signature
