I was only ten when it was over but I feel that a lot rubbed off. Now its our turn just a different face wanting/trying to stomp on the AMERICAN people.
The Truth from Two Old Marines!
Quote from a WWII veteran overhearing someone say that `You can't bomb an ideology."
"The hell you can't, because we did it. These Muslims are no different than the [Imperial] Japanese The Japs had their suicide bombers too. And we stopped them. What it takes is the resolve and will to use a level of brutality and violence that your generations can't stomach And until you can, this shit won't stop.
It took us on the beaches with bullets, clearing out caves with flame throwers, and men like LeMay burning down their cities, killing people by the tens of thousands. And then it took two atom bombs on top of it! Plus, we had to bomb the shit out of German cities to get them to quit fighting. But, if that was what it took to win, we were willing to do it.
Until you are willing to do the same...well I hope you enjoy this shit, because it ain't going to stop! Back then, we had leadership, resolve, resources and determination. Today we're afraid to hurt people's feelings....and worry about which bathroom to piss in!"
Me Here......I got this in an e-mail today. While I don't agree we should be carpet bombing ISIS and their ilk, we must stay very strong until they run up the white flag and take a knee to surrender. And if pushed hard enough, the few that are left will surrender. The bulk will in the end refuse to die for a lost cause.
If their leaders were to take an honest look at the world situation, they would know their cause is already lost. The use of terror does not win a war. It just makes those you are fighting ever madder. They haven't figured this out yet!
The ISIS fighters have things in the Muslim religion that we can use against them. They have a fear of dying in certain ways. We can burry them in "unclean" ways. We can imprison them and treat them not as PoWs but as partisans. That way they have no PoW rights. We need to exploit to the hilt these fears. Turn the element of fear back on them.
I am a historian. We didn't defeat Germany with the massive bombing. It still took the foot soldier to take ground. Many times this was under heavy fire. We did exploit mistakes the Germans made on the ground. A good read is "A Soldier's Story" by General Omar Bradley. He admits he made mistakes too. Some of the mistakes possibly cost us an earlier victory. Some made life harder for the soldiers in the Winter of '44-'45.
We did shock Japan into surrendering with the two atom bombings. But all the fire bombing before that didn't do it. We killed more civilian with the fire bombing than the atom bombs did.
Both nations suffered greatly for the heavy bombing. While it was forecast that this type of bombing would break civilian moral, it didn't ever work. Germany especially was able to maintain war product until almost the very end.
So bombing alone won't defeat ISIS. Boots on the ground supported by air attacks and using fear tactics back on ISIS will work. It does take time. We can do it if we have the will to see it through.
