"...what have we got—a Republic or a Monarchy?” “A Republic, if you can keep it

‘Dangerous’ Impeachment Talk Ridiculed As A ‘Cottage Industry’

“I think people need to understand how dangerous this is.”

Democrats’ assumptions that they can impeach President Donald Trump without any real cause are wrong on many levels, a law professor said Friday.

Two days after Republican operative Roger Stone said any impeachment attempt would create unprecedented violence, George Washington University Law School Professor Jonathan Turley called efforts to impeach Trump “dangerous.”

Stone had said turning talk of impeachment into action would be cataclysmic

“Try to impeach him. Just try it,” Stone said. “You will have a spasm of violence in this country, an insurrection like you’ve never seen.”

“Both sides are heavily armed, my friend,” Stone said, later adding, “People will not stand for impeachment. A politician who votes for it would be endangering their own life.”

Turley was less concerned with violence in the streets than a damaging upheaval to the American political system.

“I think people need to understand how dangerous this is,” Turley said during an interview on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, where he spoke of how little those advocating impeachment understand what they are talking about.

“I mean, it’s become a cottage industry of people who are arguing for impeachment,” he said. “Newsweek said you know, that the president is just six votes away from impeachment. You have impeachment meters and people promising that now we’re almost at that point where we can remove him.”

Turley said his fear is that those who oppose Trump assume they can oust him, even if he does nothing wrong.

“That’s dangerous because what people are really describing is what you have in Great Britain with a no-confidence vote,” he said. “That is, you can remove a prime minister and his government with a simple vote of no confidence. People don’t have confidence in this president. That standard was rejected by the framers.”

Democrats who ceded power to former President Barack Obama have had a change of heart, Turley said.

“The Democrats spent eight years giving almost unilateral authority and creating this sort of uber-presidency.”

He added: “And now many of them want to create a type of temp presidency, that they can remove this president for what one article described as political disagreements.”

Turley also said impeachment due to disagreements with a president would set a terrible precedent.

“Just imagine that. We are going to now impeach presidents because they don’t have the values that we want. That their thoughts are not in line with the thoughts of the majority. If you want a presidency like that, understand this is not going to be the last president. And that standard will be applied to the next one,” he said. “Maybe there’ll be a Democratic president and the majority doesn’t think that that president doesn’t have the values that it takes to stay in office.”

Turley was irked by the lack of historical understanding from lawmakers promoting impeachment.

“There are bills for impeachment that have been submitted in congress and many of them are citing the Andrew Johnson impeachment, but most of us who write in this area view the Johnson impeachment as an abuse,” he said. “That was a political disagreement … to see the Johnson impeachment being cited by so many, is very troubling.”

Turley said talk of invoking the 25th Amendment, which would oust Trump if Vice President Mike Pence, Trump’s Cabinet and Congress all vote to remove him, is irrelevant.

“That’s a lot of votes. In terms of the number you’re going to need two-thirds. So the 25th Amendment is not a really good option,” he said.

“People want this lifeline in the Constitution. How can we sort of rid ourselves of this meddlesome president? The Constitution’s designed not to really allow that because they don’t want impulse-buy removals,” he said.

Me Here......Impeaching President Trump would be the biggest mistake the Democrats would ever do.  They would trigger the mother of all backlashes!  That will include the GOP RINOs that would join them.

I have to wonder if some of these idiots think that impeaching President Trump would mean that Hillary would be come President.  If so they are so clueless as to how it would work.
