This week I sent an email to several email addresses that were posted on the Internet. I just wanted to speak my peace, have my say, I wnted to know SOMEONE in my government was listening to the people. I received this reply and I want to share it with you! Please sent this Congressman Mike Ross from Arkansas a nice note! He's listening, he understands and he cares about the well-being of Americans! We have been throwing stones, weilding bats... please give some encouragement where it is due!!
Thank you for contacting me on health care reform. I appreciate hearing from you on this important issue.
Health care is a personal issue that affects all 300 million Americans. It is also complicated and costly. My ultimate goal has always been to pass a health care reform bill that reflects common sense Arkansas values. Unfortunately, I believe neither the House nor Senate bill reflects these principles.
Last year and again this year, I hosted town hall meetings in all 29 counties in our congressional district. An overwhelmingly majority of my constituents told me they were opposed to the House and Senate health care reform bills. I heard the majority of my constituents loud and clear, and that is why I voted against the House bill last November.
On December 24, 2009, the United States Senate passed H.R.3590, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, which differed from the version that was passed by the House. It appears the House will soon vote on this bill, and I plan to vote against it as well.
Please know that I remain opposed to the House health care reform bill that I voted against last year, as well as the Senate bill or any warmed-over version. I am also opposed to reconciliation or any other parliamentary maneuver that circumvents the normal legislative process. During this economic crisis, I believe we should be more focused on the economy and putting people back to work, not increasing the size of the federal government with more spending, new mandates, and higher taxes.
Thank you again for contacting me. Please do not hesitate to contact me in my Washington, D.C. or district office most convenient to you if I can be of further assistance.
